Australia’s Stephen Smith is making an extra special effort to get to Israel on its 60th ‘anniversary.’  He also claims he’s a supporter of the peace process.  Well Isn’t that nice.  He travels to Israel to celebrate the rape, massacre and transfer of the Palestinians 60 years ago, which was required to make a Jewish state, but wants us to know he’s a big fan of peace.  Yeah right.  He is either ignorant of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, which is central to issues of justice that will create peace, or he’s for Israel’s version of peace.  Which is that we pretend we care about peace while continuing to ethnically cleanse Palestinians, all be it at a slower rate than 60 years previously.  Either way he’s an idiot, there’s no excuse for ignorance when getting yourself so heavily involved. He’s going to be useless at helping peace in the Middle East.  Clearly Smith loves peace, hates Palestinians.

FOREIGN Minister Stephen Smith will become the first minister in the Rudd Government to travel to Israel when he touches down on Tuesday.

Smith, who is on a whirlwind trip to Israel, Cyprus and France, told The AJN he was looking forward to visiting Israel in its 60th year.

“I made it clear when I became foreign minister that I would like to go to Israel this year to coincide with the 60th anniversary,” Smith said.

“Australia is a long-standing, good friend of Israel so I will reinforce that point.

“Australia is also a long-standing supporter of the peace process and a long-term enduring peace in the Middle East. Australia and the government [supports] a two-state solution, a nation-state for Israel and a nation-state for the Palestinian people, and I will make that point as well.”

During his day-long visit, Smith will meet Israeli government ministers, including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, plus Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak.

He will also venture to Ramallah to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki and negotiator Abu Allah. He also plans to lay a wreath at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

Smith has visited Israeli once before, as part of a parliamentary delegation in 2001.
