The following from The Guardian:

Israeli officials have also enjoyed a clear edge with coverage. An Israeli foreign ministry assessment of eight hours of coverage across international broadcast media reported that Israeli representatives got 58 minutes of airtime while the Palestinians got only 19 minutes. Speaking for the Israeli military, Major Avital Leibovich said: “Quite a few outlets are very favourable to Israel, namely by showing [it] suffering … I am sure it is a result of the new co-ordination.”

“New media is a new war zone within the media – we are planning to be relevant there”

New Jewish Australian Committee for Dismantling of Zionism by Ann

The following statement was just released by two Jewish Australian academics,  John Docker and Ned Curthoys:

The December 2008 Gaza Massacre

John Docker and Ned Curthoys

We are part of an increasing number of people around the world of Jewish descent who are sickened by the coldly calculated massacre of the Palestinians of Gaza and who utterly repudiate Israel’s claim that it acts in the name of Jews the world over. Like Antony Loewenstein we deplore the ‘myth of Israel’ as perpetual victim and rational peace seeker, and its stranglehold over media reportage of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Continue reading

Gaza: the logic of colonial power by Dave

One of the best articles on the Gaza massacre, by Nir Rosen, The Guardian.

A Zionist Israel is not a viable long-term project and Israeli settlements, land expropriation and separation barriers have long since made a two state solution impossible. There can be only one state in historic Palestine. In coming decades, Israelis will be confronted with two options. Will they peacefully transition towards an equal society, where Palestinians are given the same rights, à la post-apartheid South Africa? Or will they continue to view democracy as a threat? If so, one of the peoples will be forced to leave. Colonialism has only worked when most of the natives have been exterminated. But often, as in occupied Algeria, it is the settlers who flee. Eventually, the Palestinians will not be willing to compromise and seek one state for both people. Does the world want to further radicalise them?

From the J-Post:Emanuel to be Obama’s chief of staff

In an interview with Ma’ariv, Emanuel’s father, Dr. Benjamin Emanuel, said he was convinced that his son’s appointment would be good for Israel. “Obviously he will influence the president to be pro-Israel,” he was quoted as saying. “Why wouldn’t he be? What is he, an Arab? He’s not going to clean the floors of the White House.”

The Ma’ariv article also quoted Dr. Emanuel as saying that his son spends most summers visiting in Tel Aviv, and that he speaks Hebrew, but not fluently.

We should be grateful Mr Emanuel Terrorist-Senior’s bigotry is out in the open for all to see. Here is a reminder of just who some of those Arab-Americans are whom he impugns, as he impugns us all with his bigotry be it leveled against Arabs or any other heritage. Here’s a very selective list just from wikipedia, followed by a Rahm Round-up. – Ann
